Your Love is a Myth Told Through the Ages

It seems that according to certain very well renowned philosophers, thinkers and writers that Mythology is a staple by which one understands humanity on such a basic level. Myth records events from the past, namely stories involving the gods of ancient civilizations such as ancient Greek and Roman civilizations in regards to their relationships with each other and with humans. A great thinker by the name of Joseph Campbell who wrote books such as: “The Hero with a Thousand Faces” and “Creative Mythology” talks about the range of patterns that exist from the minutest details of our lives up to the most general as being reflections of a more canonistic template. And in deed if we think of for instance a well-known story from ancient time such as Tristan and Isolde which is later represented as Romeo and Juliette and arguably before that as Adam and Eve, we notice that these iconic couples represent a staple for the way we perceive relationships, the way we elevate our connection with our loving partners. To know these stories only feeds our knowledge of our connections.

If we are to look deeper into these romances between man and woman and dissect the different parts of the story, we notice that there always seems to be a primary obstacle which stands in the way of the couple being together without any worry or concern. In Romeo and Juliette for instance, it is the rivalry of two families that consider the other their absolute enemy: the Montagues and The Capulets. Even though this might not be literally the case in all soulmate unions, we ought to consider that this rivalry is but a symbol for any number of things: the tension between the Montagues and the Capulets could be, in your life, the tension present between past and present, the you as young and you as older. It could be physical space for example, the obstacles that come with long distance relationships. It could also very well be that your families do not see eye to eye immediately. In brief, the first obstacle that one faces in a relationship is there because an enormous event has occurred that completely shifts one’s gravitational pole, an event that makes two energetic orbits collide into one. This is bound to shake the earth beneath one’s feet.

Now we all know that the story of Romeo and Juliette ends in great tragedy with both of them dying in each other’s arms but this is also another symbolic event. To love someone and to find ones true soulmate in life is, in a way, the death of the old self and the rebirth of you as connected to your other half. The death of you as a sole entity that so far has been in search of it’s other half. Now the you as you know it cannot exist without your other. Once you have met and become one, there is no turning back no matter how many obstacles stand in the way. The passing of the young Romeo and his Juliette is also another symbol that as soulmates you will persist and find each other in all lifetimes as it is meant to be. This lifetime is not the only realm in which this encounter will happen.

It is up to you to find the poetry and the parallel that exist in such richness when it comes to your love life. Once you find yourself in the arms of your loved one, ancient myth, movies, songs and all kinds of creative forms resonate with so much depth and make sense on the most intuitive of levels. It is then worth to look into these epic documents counting events from the past as they solidify your notion of love and play in favor of the wonder that is your relationship with your own self and your other.
